Is it real or is it Photoshop?

I'm wondering how much of this is real vs. photoshopped silliness.

With news agencies increasingly coming under fire for "embellishing" news and entertainment videos and photographs, is anyone else worried about what's Real and what isn't?

In the meantime, though, check out the link above. Even if only a fraction of the photos are genuine, it's still good for quite a laugh. As the title says, Only in America! smile

A naked suggestion

Sign by toilet in Spain says 'flash the toilet'
I always knew that Europeans were pretty casual about nakedness, but as seen by this sign in a Spanish youth hostel, they're even encouraging people to flash their toilets!

Eggroll, European style

hunkin' HUGE eggroll dissected, er, eaten in Venray, The Netherlands
When my wonderful friend that I was staying with in Venray (The Netherlands) suggested that we have eggrolls for dinner, I was a bit skeptical. Surely she knew my appetite was typically bigger than appetizer-size, especially after not eating since lunch!

But wow, those wacky Dutch! To the right you can see just what their idea of an eggroll is. When was the last time YOU saw an eggroll that fills up an entire good-sized plate?!?

On fire

alcoholic drink intentionally fired up on New Year's Eve in Viernheim, Germany

Pot of wine with spices (with a special German name that I forget!) is lit on fire, then happily sipped on this cozy New Year's Eve with friends in Viernheim, Germany.

Truly scary

very scary picture of Adam Lasnik

This is not a costume. This is not a wig.

This was not even taken on Halloween.

Clearly, it is scary nonetheless.

(No, this is not Normal Me)

Ja!  I’m going to Deutschland!

ja.jpg I finally got my ticket ($249 roundtrip San Francisco<-->Frankfurt with a very special special!), and I'll once again be spending Christmastime with wonderful friends in Germany.

Of course, I can be a little cranky, and moan about the icky cold I'll be facing, the insane hassles of peak-time holiday air travel (in coach, no less), and so on. But aside from getting to spend time with great people, I'll also come back, once again, with a suitcase full of chocolate goodies.

Flowers in Manhattan

flowers_in_nyc.jpg
Click to see a larger version of this photo, taken in October 2000 from a random a florist shop street offering. It was scenes like this that made me frequently stop and appreciate the surprising beauty of the crowded Manhattan on-the-way-to-work hustle and bustle during my week-long business trip.

Monks (?) taking a break amongst the ruins

guys in white (monks?) stand lazily in a group, looking out over the Roman Coliseum(Click photo to see larger version)

I took this photo while on a weekend vacation in Rome, during the summer of my internship in Germany in 1997.

It actually took me forever to find the Coliseum, or any exciting Roman tourist stuff in general, since stubborn/stupid me depended on a free and lousy McDonald's Map (no joke!) from the tourist office which somehow had me walking for 5 hours in the sleepy suburbs of Rome where no one spoke English... in the OPPOSITE direction of where I was trying to get to. I suppose it beat being fed to the lions, though!

Flower in San Francisco Golden Gate Park

Strange but beautiful flower in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park(Click on photo to see larger version)

I'm in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park almost every Sunday to enjoy swing dancing with friends outdoors via the weekly "Lindy in the Park" celebration.

However, I had rarely stopped to appreciate the botanical gardens practically next door until my parents and sister came to visit one Sunday. The photo here is one of many shots I took, highlighting both the beauty and strangeness of the flowers I discovered.
