DISCLAIMER: This is my personal blog. The blatherings here aren't (necessarily) the views of the current company I work for, companies I've previously blessed with my presence, my loving parents, the Illuminati, or anyone other than me, me, me!

Divine Double-D Divas Do Derivatives.  D’oh!

I'm not kidding.

All I can say is... I would have enjoyed calculus a whole lot more if I had had teachers like this (and believe it or not, one of the featured "teachers" in this video is seriously smart!) Not saying I would have actually learned or remembered more... okay, yeah, this video is embarrasingly bad, but it still gave me a chuckle. I've heard of naked news anchorwomen, but bikini'd calculus lessons? If this doesn't herald the fall of Western Civilization as we know it... :D

Ahem. Okay, well, the substantive take-away from this entry? You can already find most anything on Google Video... now Flash-based (no more Google Player!) and enriched with handy-dandy in-page 15-second previews, automatic resizing, and more. [hat tip: Google BlogNewsChannel]

A Frustrated Hottie, a Temporary Satan Worshipper, and an Apparent Nympho

Just a little bit of lightness for this morning smile

I've taken dance lessons from this one very talented instructor, and I was a bit taken aback upon noting that her nickname in dance forums is "Hottie." Though she's certainly quite blessed in the looks department, I found this to be a rather odd choice of nicknames... possibly even bordering on conceited.

Then one day she explained it all to me.

The answer to life is no longer 42

I now understand that the meaning of life is goverened not by evolution, nor by the number 42, but rather by the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Also, I've come to realize that steadfastly believing in the THEORY of gravity is very foolhardy. I overlooked Intelligent Falling!

On life’s little surprises

So I'm listening to Internet radio and, without noticing the current title playing, marveling at a rich and engaging orchestral piece I don't recognize.

Holy smokes... it's from the first Pokemon movie?! Studio execs hired a decent full orchestra AND reasonably talented composer/arranger for THAT???

Just goes to show you that, even in the most seemingly inconsequential of places, there are little and surprising joys to be found.

Adam as a petting “Sugar Mummy”?!

After being bored with the ever-changing-but-still-pathetic Nigerian 409 e-mail scams, I was delighted to be the e-recipient of a Nigerian scam that -- at least in its newness -- is moderately entertaining. I include it below in its entirety for your edification.

Store Wars:  A very funny animation of good and evil (food)

Check out the video of Store Wars, featuring Obi Wan Cannoli and Darth Tater... and lots of laughs!

I actually have very mixed feelings about some of the "evils" it raises -- genetic engineering of plants and food irradiation in particular -- but on the whole, I do believe in supporting organic farming.

I think anyone'd be hard pressed to claim that they LIKE having lots of pesticides or antibiotics in their food. And, while this may be psychological, I do seem to prefer the taste of organic foods over the cheaper alternatives.

Anyway, all moralizing aside, do check out the video and I guarantee a good chuckle at the very minimum smile.

When just an e-mail doesn’t work… try bad poetry.  In public!

I humbly ask forgiveness
For what I did and didn't do
So now, my dearest Abby
Won't you please give back my shoe(s)?

P.S. -- I promise not to write any more bad poetic verses in your honor as soon as my shoes are returned smile

UPDATED 6/9/2005
It worked! I got my shoes back! smile

Using your penis to highlight bad search engine practices

Let me start by saying that this is actually an at-least-somewhat serious entry about the relevance of search engine results. No, really!

There've been many jokes about how some search engines serve up ridiculously goofy results for some queries. Take Google's AdWords program, for instance, which has recently served up eBay ads for everything from Greed to Guilt ("Guilt for sale...")

I know eBay (and its affiliates) must bring a whole lot of moolah to Google, but this seems to me as disturbing as it is amusing. Whatever happened to AdWords' relevancy requirements?

What the…?!—entertaining and strange photos from yours truly :)

About face After a bit of somewhat heavy, angsty musings, I figure it's a fine time for some photographic frivolity smile

Check out the 90 second slideshow of some weird, wacky, and wonderful photos I've taken and posted on Flickr.

Note that you can click on any photo during the slideshow to see a larger version and more details, and you can still pick up right where you left off.

One salesman that ain’t getting promoted any time soon

A phone call to me a few moments ago went like this:

SALESGUY: "Adam... on [name] street?"
ME: "Yep, that's me."
SALESGUY: "I'm calling about your Forbes Magazine subscription. Are you currently receiving this magazine at your address?"
ME: "Nope, and I really don't have any interest in it."
SALESGUY: "I sure don't blame you. Thanks, and have a good day."
