Holy popularity, Batman!

I just checked my access logs, and learned something both cool and strange. I'm suddenly popular.

Oh wait a minute. My BLOG is popular. That's not necessarily the same thing. Then again, nowadays, isn't the line a bit blurred amongst us geeks?

Letting it all hang out

My friend Jen recently touched upon the issue of the risks and rewards of revealing oneself in one's blog.

I wrote the following comment in response:

And yet further proof of “selling out”—but in a good way :)

Well, I've done it again! I just signed up with the new Google AdSense program and will be adding advertisements served by Google into my pages. You can read my more detailed (and now, updated) thoughts concerning advertising on my SmileZone here.

On privacy and disclosure in blogging

See that disclaimer above?

I've often mentioned something similar on personal-type posts in the past, and I figured I might as well save myself some typing and have it automatically displayed above all posts that are in my "Personal" category.

Women blogging, women in journalism

In the comments of this post on Geekdom, Jennifer raised the interesting point about the prevalence of females in the blogging world.

I HAVE noticed that there are many women bloggers, and I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the presence or lack thereof of women in 'real' journalism.

What do you think about blogging and gender? And do you think there is a correlation between this issue and paper-based journalism?

Oh, and why do women bloggers seem to get so many more comments than male bloggers? Not that I'm sore about that or anything... :D

If I sell out, does it mean I have any less to say?

I'm spending over $1,000 a year on my SmileZone site.

Given my expenditures AND the fact that I'm still unemployed, I decided to do something seemingly unholy... adding text and small graphical advertisements to my site, including my blog. My main site had contained advertisements previously, but I had hesitated 'sullying' my blog.

My blogging journey

I recently contributed my 'story' on a blogging forum, and here it is smile

---

Not too long ago, I was a huge blog-skeptic.

As someone who has designed and maintained a site happily with Dreamweaver (now Dreamweaver MX), I felt that blogs were constraining and useless. I had been keeping my own journal here using Discusware discussion board software, integrated as part of my site's message forums and I couldn't see any benefits in moving to a 'real' blogging system or maintaining something that looked and felt more like a blog.
After all, writing was writing, right?

BLADAM news:  Groovy navigation! :)

Okay, I know, I'm such a geek, but I just had to share with you that I stayed awake this morning until 5am to build you, my humble visitors, new ways to navigate through this blog.

Pagination… oh boy oh boy! :D

This blog is now paginated! In non-geekspeak, that means that from the front page or any category page, you can 'go back' in time by following links to page 2, 3, etc., until you reach the last entry in that section!

I know this may seem like a 'duh' kind of thing, but in the world of blogs, it's surprisingly revolutionary!

You'll see the new 'navigation' system on the top and bottom of all blog pages. Let me know what you think (about this or anything else BLADAMwise!)

Oh, and I added a goofy-fun "Who said this?" feature on the right-hand side. Scroll down smile
