BLADAM 2.0[?]: Life, Liberty, Love and Stuff

On privacy and disclosure in blogging

See that disclaimer above?

I've often mentioned something similar on personal-type posts in the past, and I figured I might as well save myself some typing and have it automatically displayed above all posts that are in my "Personal" category.I'm curious to know your perception.

Does it change the way you view me or my blog to know that I'm often using fake names when referring to friends? Or that I'm also sometimes engaging in 'time-shifting' to foil those who might otherwise be able to more easily link up my stories with specific events?

I personally feel that the sliver of my life I present here is pretty sincere and representative. But at the same time, I can understand that the above bold disclaimer may sow some regrettable confusion and distrust.

Tell me what you think.

I think fake names and time shifting are a perfectly sensible way of approaching blogging about personal events. I believe that the point of your post remains the same, so you’re not losing much in that respect.

The subjects of your posts are shielded from recognition, and that’s a good thing as you’re looking out for their interests as well.

But then, I may never again trust any of the dates you quote for past events. Or even future ones for that matter! tongue laugh

I’ll be more careful about glaring implausibilities, then, particularly with ordering.

THIS:

So, folks, my wife is pregnant!  Not sure if it’s a boy or a girl yet…

will certainly have to come after THIS:

I spotted this adorable woman the other day, and I’m going to ask her out the next time I see her!”

[yeah, yeah, I know, the reverse order is possible with divorces and, ahem, other options, but you get my drift :p]
