Yes, you CAN get vaccinated against the flu this year (here’s how)

Last week I got vaccinated against the flu... at a cost of $30, 30 minutes of my time, and zero guilt.

How? I got the relatively new FluMist stuff sprayed into my nose at a local pharmacy.

Signs I’m getting older

Last week, as I've done often in the past, I attended a Turbo Kickboxing class at 24 Hour Fitness.

I almost walked out.

Recommendations I gave to the orkut.com team in August 2004

ACK, this document is a mess. The quote characters and such got messed up when transferring the entry to this new software. I'll try to clean it up soon. Sorry 'bout this!

Back in August 2004, a Google friend who knows how passionate I am about online communities and social networks urged me to present the orkut.com team with a set of recommendations. Admittedly, I went a bit overboard, and submitted the sizeable document (originally MS Word, half-heartedly cleaned up into HTML) that you see below. I've not made any content changes except to remove some personally-identifying information (mostly names) and also remove or edit a couple confusing sentences. I haven't added any new content, but I think you'll still find my commentary rather relevant to the state of orkut.com today.

I welcome your feedback, and thank you for reading. More to come...

Regards,
Adam

Why I’ve given up on orkut.com

Sometimes I'm wrong. I initially hoped for and expected great things from orkut.com, and sadly the service has not delivered. Worse yet, I feel that orkut.com is moving steadily in the wrong direction.

Disclaimers (no, I DON’T speak for [x])

My blog has helped me get new jobs. It has also lost me at least one job.

Additionally, as I've seen my comments here and elsewhere on the Web alternately praised and skewered, I've become increasingly concerned when seeing "...and he works for [x]" attached.

So it's long overdue for me to set the record straight, and I'll make the best effort possible to update this entry as my affiliations change.

Short guys in film

When browsing the headlines of Wired News the other day, I became excited when I saw this:

Short Film Stars on Amazon

Wow, I thought, short folks (in particular short guys) getting featured on a prominent site like Amazon! No more Tall, Dark, and Handsome, no siree... finally, the spotlight on short, pale, and plain looking fellas like myself! Oh happy day!

What Democrats need to do

A fellow blogger offered an interesting prompt:

Oddly enough, the recent election has me disappointed but not as angry as the last one. At least I don't feel like the election was blatantly stolen like last time, with bush losing majority and winning electoral solely riding the supreme court. While there are concerns about voting machine accuracy, I do feel that Americans (by a sliver majority) want what we got on Nov 2nd. Now to figure out how to get across that rift of understanding.

Dear rest of world

I'm really sorry, and I have no rational explanation for the opinions and choices of so many of my fellow American citizens.

Please view the glass as half full instead of half empty. That's what I'm trying to do right now.

And be assured that many millions of us aren't xenophobic, homophobic, or "Old World" Europe-hating folks.
